It's time to move on to a place that is more DIY for this DIY-er. Please come on over to see what is up, comment, make suggestions, stalk, or just say hello.
The links are all the same--I have trouble clicking on tiny stuff on my phone so I thought that having it over a few lines of text might make it easier for folks like me.

This is more or less a record of my crafty pursuits. I'll use this space to keep track of promising ideas and my own successes or "learning opportunities" for future reference.

Comments are welcome, but will be removed if they don't actually contribute to the content. In other words, comments should have all meat and no time-sucking fillers.

As I complete the projects/ideas on the right, I'll move them to the left so you can see how well it worked out.

International Flights, Houston

Before I flew to south America the first time, I looked everywhere for pictures taken in the airports because of my nervousness.  I didn't find many that showed me details that I wanted.  For anyone who is flying in the Houston Intercontinental or Bush Airport, here are the pictures that I took on October 21st, 2011 at around 8 in the morning.  Please forgive me for the blurriness of several of them.  I was trying to walk while carrying my stuff while taking pictures while dealing with my broken heart.  (I was leaving my sweet Carlitos by coming home to the US.)

Here are some links that might be helpful for anyone flying in or coming to pick someone up:
http://www.fly2houston.com/ -- summarizes most of the info you could need/want
Houston Transtar-real time traffic map, VERY handy!
www.ifly.com -- Houston. Compilation of info on another site.
Airport processing time averages - official site
Seatguru - Choose the best seat on your flight

I hope the information on this page can help other folks to feel a bit more comfortable in their travels to come here.  If anyone has questions, please feel free to ask.

All pictures can be clicked on to see more details.

First thing seen when exiting the aircraft.  Houston is very humid.  Be prepared to be breathing water.

Yay!!!!

You can walk or ride.  I don't care how much energy I have, I always ride because it is fun!

Wheeeeeee!

These two pictures are the view from the window on the right in the prior image. That is where you check in for international flights.

See those restrooms right there?  Yeah.  GO.  I am serious.  You won't get another chance for at least 30 minutes.  If you are here on a visa, that could be a couple of hours.

I lied.  These are really the last ones.  But there are more people in these so you might have to wait in line.

For K-1 fiance visa holders, which line is for them?

On the far side of this view is where the visa people get to have your formal "chat" time.  There is an escalator going down on the far right out.  Once you go down, you can't come back up at all. If you are traveling with someone, I have read that you pretty much just have to stand near the escalator until that person is done. If you get moved along, be sure to have agreed to meet in baggage claim at the bottom of the escalator.

Free carts to use.  My friend that was picking me up said that "Welcome " was written on it.  I didn't notice but she thought that was very cool.  Next time, I'll look for that.

The luggage buffet.  Someone official-looking came over and told me to quit taking photos.  There is another checkpoint after this to declare your dutiable items.  I wish I had asked for a list of fruits/veggies that are allowable. I can't find an official list anywhere but people do bring some things.  I'd really love to bring my son a grenadilla!

This is what you see when you have gone through all the check points.  The person waiting for you will be out there, on the other side of that little fence, if that person is waiting inside for you.

Welcome home!!!!!!!  My heart was so full of joy at this greeting!

This is the pick-up area where you can't park.

Leaving the airport.

Most people take Beltway 8 (also known as "the tollway) to either Highway 59 or I-45.  There is no toll on this stretch.  ***NOTE***  If you are not familiar with Houston, every major road has 2 or more names.  Highway 59 = Southwest freeway AND EastTex freeway. I-45 is also the Gulf freeway.  This can be confusing, not only because people say this, but it is on official taxpayer-furnished signs, too!!!!!  It took me several years to get the hang of it.

Old Glory.  Too bad there wasn't even a slight breeze that morning.

Here we are on Beltway 8, heading west.
